From Driver to Owner-Operator

“I mean, we do this because we love it,” Robert begins, his enthusiasm on fire. “We love the people who work for us, and I just love trucking, you know?”

Robert’s journey started a decade ago as a driver. Three years into his career, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to purchase his own truck, marking the transition from driver to owner-operator. This bold move set the foundation for what would become WGS.

Building a Business with a Strong Foundation

Partnering with his friend Alex, Robert combined fleets to leverage their collective expertise. “We both have our own expertise,” he explains. Together, they tackled a variety of jobs for companies in construction, gas, and excavation. “We haul out all the materials for the jobs, bring in materials—anything you could possibly fit in the trailer, we haul it.”

The versatility of their services opened endless opportunities. “The more work we got, the busier we are, the better for our company,” Robert notes. Their hard work paid off; in the past six months alone, they’ve added five more trucks to their fleet. “We’re working hard every day to keep growing and keep the business strong. Every day is definitely a hustle.”

Discovering MTM: A Gamechanger

As WGS grew, Robert and Elva were on the lookout for quality equipment to expand their services. “MTM—we heard about them on social media. They were blowing up; they were everywhere,” he recalls. Intrigued by MTM’s rising reputation and attractive deals—“like no payments for a year, which would help us out a lot”—they decided to give us a shot.

After ordering three MTM trailers, specifically our the 23′ quarter-frame flat-bottom trailer, Robert was immediately impressed. “You get out on the road with an MTM trailer, maintain it, keep it greased up, and it feels like you’re floating,” he explained.

Efficiency and Versatility on the Road

The MTM trailers offered more than just reliability. Their lighter design meant significant fuel savings and the ability to haul more tonnage. “You’re able to haul a little more tonnage. Whatever you want to throw in that trailer, you can haul it. That trailer can do anything—you can send them anywhere,” Robert emphasizes.

This versatility has been crucial for WGS, allowing them to meet diverse client needs and take on a wider range of projects. “Anything you could possibly fit in the trailer, we haul it. There’s endless opportunities.”

Looking Ahead: Growth and Vision

For Robert and his wife, this is just the beginning. “We’re in it for the long run, and let’s see where it takes us,” he says with optimism. Their goals are ambitious yet grounded in hard work and dedication. “Hopefully, next year we have another 10 MTM trailers. That’s our goal—to keep growing, and that’s my vision.”

Their passion for trucking and commitment to their team fuels their relentless pursuit of success. “We do this because we love it, and we love the people who work for us.”
