Essential Maintenance Tips for Your MTM Trailer: Keep It Running Smoothly

Keeping your trailer in top condition is key to getting the most out of your investment. Regular maintenance can prevent costly breakdowns, extend the life of your trailer, and ensure safe operation. Let’s walk through a few must-do maintenance tasks that should be on your regular checklist.
1. Start with the Fenders
Within the first few days of use, inspect all the fender bolts on both the front and rear fenders. Make sure to check both sides of the trailer. Tighten any loose bolts to ensure your fenders stay securely attached.
2. Move to the Rear Tires
Your rear tires are critical to the overall performance of your trailer, so give them special attention. Check that all lug nuts are torqued to 500 lb and verify that each tire has the proper air pressure. This helps maintain balance and prevents unnecessary wear and tear.
3. Don’t Forget the Hub Oil
Keeping an eye on the Hub oil is crucial. Make sure it always stays at the full mark. If you notice the oil level dropping, inspect the backside of your tires for oil splatter or wet brakes, as these could be signs of a leak.
4. Greasing Your Trailer
Proper lubrication is essential for smooth operation. After picking up your trailer, give it a thorough greasing within the first week. Beyond that, grease your trailer every two to three days to ensure all moving parts are well-lubricated and functioning properly.
It’s Worth It
Routine maintenance might seem like a hassle, but it’s a small investment that pays off big in the long run. By regularly inspecting and maintaining your trailer’s components, you’ll keep it in great shape, reduce downtime, and get the best performance possible.
