From Stone Cutter to Fleet Manager: Thomas Pranskus’s Story

Every career has its turning points, and for Thomas Pranskus, the trajectory of his life changed the day he climbed onto a backhoe. From humble beginnings as an architectural stone cutter, Thomas discovered his passion for heavy equipment and built a thriving career managing a fleet of trucks and trailers that operates daily in challenging conditions.
A Journey into Heavy Equipment
“I started out as an architectural stone cutter,” Thomas recalls. “Then I arrived here. As soon as they saw me on the backhoe, I never got off. It kind of changed the whole trajectory of what I wanted to do.” That turning point led to six years of running the shop—a role he takes great pride in. “It’s been a good journey. I’m very, very proud to be where I’m at.”
With the stars aligning just right, Thomas now oversees a fleet of 46 semi-trucks that haul materials across various job sites. It’s a demanding operation, but one he tackles with expertise and dedication.
The Demands of the Job
Heavy hauling isn’t just about moving material—it’s about navigating unpredictable environments and keeping equipment in top condition. “You have all these different variables in the job,” Thomas explains. “One bucket of material might be 10,000 pounds getting dropped into the truck continually, day in and day out. They could be going through a foot of mud one day and running on rough PGE the next.”
To meet these challenges, PT Ferro’s fleet consists of MTM quarter-frame trailers with flat-bottom tubs that handle everything from construction debris to heavy materials. Durability and build quality aren’t just nice-to-haves—they’re necessities.
Why MTM Trailers Make the Cut
When it comes to trailers, Thomas is confident in his choice. “The build quality is probably the most important thing to me,” he says. “The MTM trailers are holding up very well. As far as durability goes, I don’t know how you can get much more durable.”
For Thomas, knowing that the equipment is reliable makes all the difference. “To know that they’re going to run every day and you’re not repairing them or having to fix them is huge,” he emphasizes. “They’re out there running; they’re making money. So they’re making money every day—that’s a good thing.”
